Why Your Notion PDF Looks Blurry (and How to Fix It)

You exported your Notion page as a PDF and the text looks soft. Images look pixelated. Everything is slightly — or very — blurry. You're not alone: this is one of the most common complaints about Notion's export feature, and it happens for a specific technical reason.

The short answer

Notion's built-in PDF export renders your page at screen resolution (around 96 DPI) and then scales that image up to fill a printed page. Print quality is 300 DPI. When you scale 96 DPI content to 300 DPI, you're stretching each pixel to cover more than three times the area — and that stretching is exactly what blur is.

What you can try yourself

Before assuming it's unfixable, try these:

• Zoom in before printing. In your browser, zoom to 125–150% on the Notion page, then use Ctrl/Cmd+P. The browser renders at the zoomed resolution, which is higher than default. This helps with text but rarely fixes embedded images.
• Use higher-resolution source images. If your page contains images you uploaded, make sure the originals are at least 1500px wide. Notion's export scales images down to whatever resolution it renders at — garbage in, garbage out.
• Try the HTML export instead. Export as HTML, open the file in your browser, then print to PDF from the browser. Browsers render text as vectors (sharp at any zoom), which fixes the blurry text — but you'll lose some formatting and images may still be soft.

Why the DIY fixes only go so far

The fundamental issue is that Notion's export treats your page as a screenshot, not as a document. A screenshot has a fixed number of pixels; a document has text that can be rendered at any resolution. No amount of zooming or re-exporting changes the fact that the source is a low-resolution image.
